Holly


Holly trees are found across all three regions of North Carolina and stay green all year. The American holly is the most easily recognized of the three types of holly trees in North Carolina. American holly trees have sharp, pointed leaves and the female trees have bright red berries.

Did you know?

Leaves closer to the top of holly trees are typically less sharp and spiky because they are less at risk of being eaten by mammals like deer or cows.
