North Carolina is home to saltwater and freshwater turtles. Although some turtles only live in the forests and others only live in the sea, there is a wide variety of turtles you can find. The eastern box turtle is one of the most common turtles found in North Carolina. It can be found in forests and woods near freshwater. Other species of turtles, like loggerheads and leatherbacks, are saltwater turtles and can only be found in the Atlantic ocean.
